Using Causal Inference to Make Sense of Messy Data

Ilya Shpitser, PhD, John C. Malone Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Whiting School of Engineering, Johns Hopkins University

The mission of the Malone Center for Engineering in Healthcare is to catalyze and accelerate the development of research-based innovations that advance the effectiveness and efficiency of health care. In this talk I will discuss how my work on missing data and causal inference fits in with the Center’s mission by helping us make sense of complex, messy, and high dimensional datasets that arise from electronic health records, and longitudinal observational studies.
