Earlier this week Johns Hopkins University announced 32 Faculty member recipients of Johns Hopkins Catalyst Awards, including IDIES affiliate Professor El-Awady of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Jaafar El-Awady is one of 32 recipients of the $75K award selected for 2018. Awardees are selected on the basis of their academic accomplishments, creativity and originality, and academic impact.
Professor El-Awady’s research interests include multiscale materials modeling, damage and fracture mechanisms of materials in mechanical design, material degradation in extreme environments, nano-materials and structures, and impact dynamics and wave propagation.
