Wired Magazine featured a story about IDIES affiliate Tamás Budavári’s research solving Baltimore’s vacant housing problem in January, 2018. The article is a follow up on stories in the Atlantic’s CityLab blog and Baltimore Sun about his team’s usage of big data methodologies in astronomy to study the spread of urban decay in Baltimore. According to the commentary from one of the editors of Wired Magazine, the team’s research indicates that there are around 30,000 unoccupied buildings altogether, many of which have simply not been identified.
